Welcome to the serene abode of inspiring books. Dedicated to the book lovers of Calicut, Chavara Public Library stands close to the 4th Railway Gate, within the quiet and peaceful premises of the Amalapuri Church.
Books, the lifeblood of great minds, are preserved and treasured for future generations. Despite the tremendous progress and changes in the field of communication, books remain as popular and useful as ever. From classics to contemporary titles, the library has a rich collection spanning various categories.
The spacious and modern building that houses the library is equipped with all the conveniences that make every visit a pleasant experience. At present, the library has four sections: the reference library, the general library, the children’s library, and the public reading room.
The reference library contains books, periodicals, and journals intended primarily for research scholars. The general library consists of rows upon rows of books available for lending to members. The children’s library is exclusively for young readers below the age of sixteen. The public reading room, a spacious and well-lit area within the library, is meant for browsing newspapers, magazines, and weeklies. A warm and uplifting atmosphere, along with courteous and ever-helpful staff, awaits you.
Chavara Public Library is the embodiment of a noble vision. It draws its inspiration from Kuriakose Elias Chavara, a man of God and a man of action. He realized that knowledge is true power. For him, empowering people meant educating them. And what better path to true education than the regular use of a good library? This library, the dream project of the Calicut Province of the CMI Congregation, sets the stage for the people of Calicut to begin a new inner journey of self-discovery and self-improvement—in the pleasant and trustworthy company of books.
Chavara Learning Spaces, a new addition offered by the library, provide quiet and calm study environments in the heart of the city for students and job aspirants seeking dedicated preparation. These learning spaces, along with access to library resources and basic facilities, are used by hundreds of aspirants on a nominal monthly fee basis.
